The Tamale branch of the Winners Chapel International on Saturday joined the euphoria of the CAN 2008 when its members led by the resident Pastor, Francis Colendo undertook a cleanup exercise in the Metropolis.
The exercise, which was carried out amidst brass-band music lasted over two hour's, with the members sweeping, desilting gutters and collecting rubbish along some of the major principal streets of the Metropolis.
The church members carried placards with inscriptions welcoming visitors to the Metropolis with the main banner saying, "Winners Chapel welcomes you to CAN 2008, Help Keep Tamale Clean".
Some football fans, shop owners and other passers by carried off by the euphoria and the brass band music joined the members in the clean up exercise.
Some of the residents that GNA Sports spoke to commended the Winners Chapel for their initiative, describing it as exemplary worthy of emulation by other religious groups.
Pastor Colendo said the exercise was part of the Church's social responsibility to the community and its way of making the people from the participating countries feel at home since they were all from one continent.
He urged the people of the Metropolis to cooperate with the visitors by giving them the necessary assistance to make them feel comfortable.
