The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Akufo-Addo government of being “the biggest enabler and promoter” of corruption in the country.
This comes after the country was ranked 80th out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) released by Transparency International on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, indicated that results prove that the President has failed to implement measures to eradicate corruption as he promised during his 2016 campaign.
“As a man who touted his vainglorious anti-corruption credentials with a promise to ruthlessly deal with corruption when elected, Akufo-Addo has performed way below the expectations of Ghanaians.
“[This] points to the fact that President Akufo-Addo’s talk of incorruptibility while in opposition was nothing but a well-packaged lie designed to mislead the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
The CPI 2019 report released by Transparency International on Wednesday indicates that Ghana, since 2018 has maintained the same scores of 41 out of a possible 100.
However, unlike 2018 when Ghana was 78th, the country dropped to the 80th position out of 180 countries beating African countries like Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Lesotho but not Rwanda, South Africa as well as São Tomé and Principe.
“President Akufo-Addo’s best performance since coming into office is far worse than President Mahama’s worst score of 43 points which was recorded in the year 2016 before the NDC exited office.
“This position is premised on the fact that President Akufo-Addo has proven to be the biggest enabler and promoter of corruption since his assumption of office,” he stressed.
