The Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police is expected to invite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ketu North, James Klutse Avedzi for questioning over allegations that the police are working with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to cause confusion on election day.Mr. Avedzi made the allegations at the inauguration of the NDC’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network, (TEIN), in Ho.The MP accused the Government of training special forces drawn from the military and police to intimidate the electorate in areas the NPP is unpopular in the up-coming December elections.According to Joy News’ Volta Regional correspondent, Agbeko Ben Coffie, the MP has persistently been raising the alarm at various platforms in and outside his constituency, insisting that the NPP’s alleged intention is to cause confusion in constituencies known to be NDC strongholds.The MP alleged that among those being trained to destabilize the elections are constituents, who would be asked to start creating confusion in the course of voting, while their counterparts who will be part of the security detail, under the guise of quelling the confusion, shoot indiscriminately to scare the voters, who would abandon the election process and run to their villages.Asked if he has reported the matter to the police, the MP said no, but that they, (NDC) were preparing for the would-be trouble causers.Speaking to Joy News, the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Bernard Dery said notice is to be sent to the Speaker of Parliament to seek the MP’s release for questioning. The police would be asking him to provide evidence.The Police commander also confirmed that the MP had not made a report to the police. Instead, he said, the MP came to him last Saturday at the District Police Headquarters at Ho, in the company of the MP for Ho Central and another MP to plead for bail for a hardened criminal from Dzodze called Mapuzo. The police Commander said, the criminal has jumped bail and the police are still looking for him.Mr. Dery said the MP while with him, never mentioned anything about the stockpiling of arms and the training of forces to cause trouble during the elections.Menawhile, in his response to Joy News, Mr. Avedzi said, he did not report to the police because he saw no reason in reporting the matter to the same group that is training the special forces. In his opinion therefore, he thought the best thing to do was to bring the information to the notice of the public – which he has done.He also said, he has not made the information known to the NDC as a party, he however said he would do that at the appropriate time.While the MP stood by his earlier allegations that these people are being trained, he could not tell the type of arms they are carrying.By Emmanuel K.
