A number of teachers from across the country say they have been defrauded by an Information Technology (IT) company that was supposed to provide them with personal computers. Under the deal facilitated by the Ministry of Education Science and Sports the teachers paid for the computers through deductions from their salaries by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. The IT Company, INTO IT Ghana Limited also known as Livegate Ltd was supposed to deliver the laptop computers within 60 days after deductions started. But the teachers complain that the company failed to deliver the computers although the deductions started about four months ago. According to the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), investigations into the deal revealed worrisome details. The NGARAT President, Mr. Kwame Alorvi told Joy News that the company’s Chief Executive Officer is seeking to contest the Suhum constituency seat on the ticket of the NPP. He said the teachers believe they may have defrauded by Mr. Brian Acheampong and the money used to finance his campaign. He said he had over one hundred and one calls from teachers in one night over deal. Mr. Alorvi noted that one reverend Dadebo who is the Coordinator of the ICT programme at the Ministry of Education is alleged to have given Mr. Acheampong the authority to tour schools. He however added that it was unclear whether the programme is being run by the ministry or by a private company. He said while the company is INTO Ghana limited deductions were made in the name of Livegate limited. He observed that some of the teachers complained that when they called the company they are told that the computers are being distributed in the Western Region and other times they are told distribution is going on in the Volta Region. Meanwhile the man at the centre of the suspected scam Mr Acheampong told Luv FM’s Yaw Ansu-Gyeabour that the computers are being distributed to teachers in the Ashanti Region.
