With just a month to go for Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), to name his running mate, whispers within the party point to the Gonja-born chief, Alhaji Jawula as a likely nominee for the vice presidential slot of the party. It is believed that Alhaji Jawula is the only among the names being touted who is capable of overshadowing Mr. John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the running mate to Prof Mills.
A political activist and an NPP stalwart, Alfred Kwame Frempong has stated in a two-page document that "with much credentials to his credit, Jawula is, no doubt the most popular amongst the names that are making the rounds for the running mate to Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo."He said the Gonja traditional area is considered the largest traditional area in the country and with Alhaji Jawula as a traditional ruler in Kpembi, a town near Salaga in the Northern Region, one can imagine the electoral fortunes that he would bring to Nana Addo's ticket as well as the NPP.Alhaji Jawula is currently serving as the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, and the NPP firebrand has no doubt that "Alhaji Jawula is that caliber that can partner Nana, for an emphatic victory come the 2008 general elections.""As a devout Muslim, Alhaji Jawula has good relations with the Chief Imam and all the ten regional Imams, and his partnership with Nana Addo will surely win the Zongo votes for the New Patriotic Party", Mr. Frempong stated. He said with his experience in the Civil Service over the years, according the Lepo Wura is the most experienced in the workings of governance of the country, adding that this is because he had the opportunity to work with so many governments in the country - both military and civilian.Source: The Crusading Guide
