Members of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of New Patriotic Party (NPP), have called on the Partys flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be independent and use his discretion and good judgement to choose a running mate.
They said he should not be influenced by the numerous names being speculated in the media but choose an honest, principled and hard working person whom he could work with.
The call was made in a statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday and signed by Mr Kofi Asante, chairman of the branch.
It said the practice whereby people lobbied for their preferred candidates was not the policy of the party and cautioned that it could create confusion in the party.
The statement urged Nana Akufo-Addo to take cognizance that those claiming to be campaigning for him, were serving their own interests and undermining his discretion in choosing a running mate.
It cautioned such people to refrain from extorting monies from the running mate aspirants under the pretext of lobbying for them since the final decision would be taken by Nana Akufo-Addo in collaboration with the National Executive Committee.
