Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, has stated that the election of an opposition party in the forthcoming general election has the potential of derailing the pace of development in the country.
He said the level of development achieved in the country since 2001 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office must not be compromised for empty political promises.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom made the observation during a familiarization tour of selected communities in the district.
The DCE’s tour took him to Nkyesa, Nyakoma, Komeso, Odubi, Apragya, Asempaneye, Yaw Barima, Adofokrom and Kwakrukrom.
Speaking at separate durbars held in his honour, Mr Boakye-Yiadom charged Ghanaians to retain the NPP in power to ensure sustainable development.
He said the solid foundation laid by the NPP government required another mandate to implement its viable policies for the overall benefit of Ghanaians.
The DCE noted that changing government at this crucial moment of the country’s history could be detrimental to the nation’s quest for accelerated development, indicating that the NPP government had put in place a thriving economy which needed continuity.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom said the NPP administration had seen tremendous improvement in all sectors of the economy and entreated Ghanaians to renew its mandate.
He urged the people to rally behind the District Assembly as it embarked on infrastructure development, stating that all communities would have their fair share.
He said as part of the Assembly’s commitment to human resource development, it was sponsoring 510 students from the basic to university level.
The DCE disclosed that GHc4,000 had been released to the District Directorate of Education to conduct a uniform mock examination for pupils preparing to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
He announced that a total of 4,000 pupils in the district would soon benefit from the School Feeding Programme and urged parents to enrol their children in school.
