The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu has observed that the political atmosphere in the region is conducive for his party to win more votes in the December elections.
According to the Chronicle, Nuworsu explained that more people are now linked to the NPP, and attributed the situation to the level of development that the NPP government has brought to the people.
Mr. Nuworsu, who was briefing the media on the state of the party in the region, noted that the development projects executed by the government within the past seven years, had paved the way for the NPP in the Volta region to increase the percentage of their votes in the forthcoming general elections.
He disclosed that the party was working hard to secure six more parliamentary seats in addition to Nkwanta-North, as well as ensuring that the party wins 30 to 40 percent of the total votes in the region, to ensure that the NPP government retained power.
He, however, declined to mention the six constituencies where the seats would be won. He said it would be a great achievement if the party wins the seven seats. Mr. Nuworsu was not happy about the way some people in the region were trying to sow seeds of confusion in the party. He appealed to those involved to stop and rather direct their efforts towards supporting Nana Akufo-Addo's campaign.
He said there were laid down structures in the party where aggrieved members could channel their grievances for redress, instead of engaging themselves in what he described as "unhealthy activities", which derailed the efforts of the party.
Mr. Nuworsu challenged the people in the Volta region to compare the twenty years of the (P)NDC government and the eight years of the NPP, in terms of development and see who performed better.
The Regional Chairman, who is also the Deputy Minister responsible for Youth and Employment, recounted how hostile the region was to the NPP some years back, noting that the rate at which the people were now embracing the party was unprecedented.
Mr. Nuworsu also appealed to Ghanaians to uphold peace during and after the elections to set another record in the sub-region, adding that the elections were to enable the people to vote for a leader who would bring development to them, as well as ensuring their safety and a congenial working environment, stressing that “election is not about do and die affair".
