Bearing in mind the crucial nature of this year’s elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP vice presidential candidate has warned the party leadership, sympathisers and supporters never to embark on any fruitless political venture which may result in sending the party to opposition. According to him, this year's election is about the future development of the country, and for which reason the rank and file of the party must never allow themselves to be misled by any political party in this country. Dr. Bawumia, who was instrumental in drafting the financial sector component of $547 million of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Compact with the United States (US), told the enthusiastic NPP crowd in Takoradi in the Western Region, that the NPP will continue to compare track records of the achievements of the various political administrations. The NPP running mate maintained that the Kufuor-led administration has managed the affairs of this country so well that all can feel the positive impact of the economy. Chronicling his political credential and activities in the background, Dr. Bawumia told the NPP delegates at Sekondi that NPP victory in these elections largely depend on them. "The party belongs to you, and must serve you. It is your sweat, sacrifice and tenacity over the years that have built up this great party. I therefore see my selection to support our Presidential candidate as a call to serve you at all times and in all a circumstances," he said. Describing his commitment and loyalty to the party and its ideals and principles as deep and unflinching, Dr. Bawumia pledged to provide loyal, devoted and critical support to Nana Akufo-Addo in an effort to secure a renewal of the mandate of the NPP administration. This, according to him, will enable the Ghanaians to move forward with revitalization of energy and ideas with the project of the transformation of the country's economy and modernization of the Ghanaian society. "Let me assure those who have, in the true NPP spirit of respect for free expression and dissent, voiced concerns about my nomination, that I am truly one of the family members. I sincerely look forward to work with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the leadership and particularly with you - the hard-working foot soldiers of our party," he added. This, he stressed, will ensure a one-touch victory in the December elections. For these reasons, he added, "I wish to make an open promise to you that my doors will be opened to each and every one of you; and I look forward to developing personal friendships with as many of you as possible". On the issue of the economy, Dr. Bawumia said the NPP is moving forward by building on the sound economic foundation laid by President John Agyekum Kufuor. He affirmed that Nana Akufo-Addo is truly committed to economic and social modernization of the country, and would therefore need the mandate of the duo in realising that vision. To achieve economic success, he said the NPP Presidential candidate has noble plans to make access to quality education and health care, good jobs with good pay his priorities. As a Ghanaian of Northern extraction, he added, he was particularly excited by the initiative of President Kufuor in setting up a fund to address the deplorable level of under-development in the region.
