A member of the Nana Akufo-Addo campaign team says the selection of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s running mate has led to series of defections from the opposition NDC.
He also claims that Bawumia’s candidature has made positive impact on the NPP, far more than what John Mahama brings to the table as NDC’s vice presidential candidate.
“The selection of Bawumia has had a greater effect on our party than the effect John Mahama had on the NDC.”
“As I speak to you now there is virtually no other party in Mamprugu except the NPP. People are defecting in their large numbers from the NDC including the CPP’s Walewale parliamentary candidate.”
Moustafa Hamid spokesperson to Nana Akufo-Addo made these remarks in an interview with Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe, to explain the activities of NPP’s running mate ahead of his first ever political campaign in his home region on Tuesday.
According to Moustafa Hamid, the campaign is to “officially introduce him to the people of Northern Ghana” not as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, but as the vice presidential candidate, and to sell the vision of the party ahead of the December elections.
The campaign will take him to the Northern, Upper East and West regions of Ghana where he is expected to meet traditional rulers, religious leaders and party members.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is to be accompanied by a powerful delegation led by Party Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, former presidential aspirants, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and popular hi-life musician Daddy Lumba.
Moustafa Hamid rebutted assertions that the vice presidential candidate had to be accompanied on his campaign tour by the huge party bigwigs because of his relative inexperience in politics.
“The high powered party delegation has nothing to do with political inexperience but everything to do with the seriousness the NPP attaches the campaign and more importantly the people in the north.”
“The delegation is to help galvanize more votes in the northern regions for the party” he added.
