Aspiring flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo will begin his nationwide campaign tour onTuesday, July 29, at Akoto Lante in the Odododiodio constituency, in Accra.
Going back to his roots, the venue for this event will be Akwei's House, the historical meeting ground of the United Party (the Danquah-Dombo-Busia family), not far from Betty House, Swalaba, where Akufo-Addo was born.
Akufo-Addo will be meeting all 34 NPP constituency chairpersons in the Greater Accra Region, as well as other constituency executives who are expected to show up. NPP Members of Parliament in the region are also expected to turn up.
At Akwei's House, Nana Akufo-Addo will address party people, announce his regional campaign co-ordinators, and articulate the theme of his campaign. He will also talk about some of the major issues affecting the country.
Though the focus is on party delegates for the primary, Nana Akufo-Addo says the main issue facing Ghanaians now is the economy -- the rising cost of living and cost of production, unemployment and the political turbulence from public agitations, as a result of public anger and disillusionment with the government.
Akufo-Addo believes the major issues confronting the people of Ghana today are around the increasing sufferings visited on the people through bad economic policies, the breakdown of social services, and the loss of confidence in the President and his administration to offer credible solutions.
In solidarity with business people and consumers, alike, Akufo-Addo will tour the commercial centre of the capital after addressing party people, with visits to Kantamanto, where he will meet leaders of various trade associations and move on to do the same at the Makola Market.
From there, he will visit Okaishie, where Akufo-Addo and his entourage, including MPs and other party stalwarts, will interact with traders, shoppers and commuters.
The Akufo-Addo campaign train is expected to continue from there to Bolgatanga, in the Upper East region, Wednesday, where he will address party executives from all the constituencies.
He will then proceed to Tamale to continue with his nationwide tour, which will take him to all 10 regions. More details of the campaign will be made available on Tuesday.
