A member of Kwesi Nyantakyi’s legal team says the state cannot prove the charges proffered against the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss.
Charles Pouzing, speaking to JoyNews’ Joseph Ackah-Blay, argues “you cannot induce somebody to commit an offense and turn around and say the person s guilty of the offense.”
Nyantakyi in court on Wednesday
His comments follow Wednesday’s proceedings in the Accra High Court where Mr. Nyantakyi was granted bail of GH¢1million.
State prosecutors have levelled three counts against the former Fifa Executive Committee member.
A former member of the Association’s Executive Committee Abdulai Alhassan also faces two charges; conspiracy to commit fraud and fraud.
The charges follow allegations by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team.
In an investigative video titled Number 12, When Greed and Corruption Become the Norm, Tiger Eye PI alleged Mr. Nyantakyi took bribes from their agents to broker deals on behalf of the Ghana FA.
Nyantakyi is seen in the video accepting bundles of cash from the supposed investors.
The world governing body of football banned Nyantakyi from all football-related activities for life after reviewing the footages although the embattled administrator resigned from all his portfolios earlier.
He has denied any wrongdoing, arguing the Number 12 video is not a true reflection of what transpired between him and the supposed investors.
After two years, the state has now begun prosecuting him after a lot of back and forth with critics who claimed government is protecting one of its financiers.
