After several hours of chaotic scenes at the New Patriotic Party Head Quarters, Tuesday, the party chairman Paul Afoko stands accused of lying to the general public.
First Vice Chairman of the party Freddie Blay who is livid over the violent scenes says Mr Afoko was economical with the truth when he suggested that the Steering Committee consented to the directive for Perry Okudzeto, the Acting Director of Communications to proceed on leave.
The embattled chairman told the media that the issue about the beefing up of the communications team had thoroughly been discussed at the steering committee at least on two occasions, insisting, the committee is aware of the decision to ask Perry Okudzeto to proceed on leave.
The press conference had to be ended abruptly when some angry youth besieged the premises of the HQ only to clash with body guards at the party.
Speaking to Joy News hours after the fracas, Freddie Blay who himself was accused at the press conference of disrespecting the party structures, hit back at the party chairman accusing him of lying to the public.
"It's not true; Afoko is not telling you the truth. It is a blatant lie and i have to call a spade a spade," he indicated.
He said even though there had been discussions about the party's communications outfit there was no final decision to have the acting communications director to proceed on leave.
Mr Blay said even more worrying is the fact that he and other key members of the National Executive Committee were not invited for Tuesday's press conference.
He said the party must close its ranks and resolve the issue amicably.
Meanwhile, some executives of the NPP, including National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku, Freddie Blay, Third Vice Chairman FF Antoh CK Tedam are calling for an emergency steering committee meeting to discuss some of these pertinent issues that have cropped up over the week.
