Deputy Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu says if elections were held today, the NPP would lose because of the turmoil that has engulfed the party.
He said a party that cannot organise a simple administrative task such as changing guards at party Headquarters and changing deputy directors of communications cannot be trusted with higher responsibility of governing a country.
He was speaking on Joy FM and MultiTV's Newsfile programme, Saturday.
The NPP made headlines in the past few days with accusations and counter accusations between members of the national executive committee.
The internal wrangling culminated in full blown violent exchanges at the party's headquarters with machete wielding men clashing with guards at the head quarters during a press conference organised by the party chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
It took the timely intervention of the police to restore calm and order at the Headquarters.
Discussing the matter on Newsfile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the violence and "deep crisis in the NPP is the direct results of a dysfunctional leadership."
For a mere administrative decision to degenerate into the brandishing of machetes and exchanging of blows is something he could not understand.
He argued the crisis was also the result of a deep seated division within the party with factions said to be supporting either Nana Akufo-Addo or Alan Kyerematen.
He said the party leadership at all levels must take responsibility for the crisis in which the party finds itself.
"What they have done is to undermine their credibility in the eyes of right thinking Ghanaians," he noted.
A member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare Ansah who was also on the show called for a ceasefire within the party.
He conceded all was not well within the party and appealed to all factions to bury the hatchet and move on towards building a formidable party.
