Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, Sam Atukwei Quaye has showered praises on former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his foundation for solving water challenges at Kodjo Ashong, a suburb of the district.
The MCE’s excitement stems from the fact that Kodjo Ashong residents have been struggling for many years – sometimes walking for several hours over long distances – to get water.
It is in this regard that while commending former president Kufour for providing a borehole and solar powered streets lights for the people, the MCE has called on other institutions to support government in building communities.
Mr. Atukwei Quaye said the major part of the assembly’s challenge has been resolved with the provision of the borehole and street lights.
The projects undertaken by the J.A. Kuffour Foundation has received GH₵100,000 funding support from Ecobank Ghana.
The Municipal Chief Executive says the assembly requires further support to improve sanitation and build new markets for the growing population.
He appealed for support to provide a health centre, especially for women to save them from travelling all the way to Amasaman, located kilometres from Kodjo Ashong, to assess medical care.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor during the inauguration of the borehole, said he is hopeful the bolehole would improve the quality of life of residents especially women, and reduce Buruli ulcer, bilharzia and other water-borne diseases in the community.
President Kuffour assured residents that the next project by his foundation will be bigger and will impact on more people.
