Cal Bank embarked on a tree planting exercise on Saturday, September 6 2014 in all its areas of operation: Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tarkwa.
This exercise was executed in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Gardens.
The bank said the exercise was in line with its corporate policy of being environmentally conscious.
The Bank has planted over 6,000 trees in its three regions of operation.
The trees were planted on the shoulders and the medians of some major roads in the respective municipalities.
In Accra, the trees were planted on the stretch from the Ghana Standards Authority to the Atomic Junction, near the Presec School.
The tree species planted were “Ficus Species”, “Cassia Siamia Species”, “Mahogany” and “Acacia Species” which can withstand dry weather conditions and have green foliage.
The main objectives of this exercise is to contribute to the sustainability of the environment, reduce deforestation, beautify the environment and more importantly, to support the national efforts of urban afforestation.
This is the maiden exercise and in subsequent tree planting exercises, CAL Bank aims to plant over 8,000 trees every year in all its regions of operation.
