A comment by Kofi Adams, spokesperson for former President Jerry John Rawlings, to the effect that the National Democratic Party (NDP) is 'useless', has incurred the wrath of some leading members of the party.
Kofi Adams, who is seeking to unseat Yaw Boateng Gyan as National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), told a rural radio station recently that the NDP - formed out of the NDC by former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings - should be disbanded because it was a useless party.
According to the aspiring national organizer, the NPD leadership had persistently linked him to the party, saying he was not comfortable with party saying he was not comfortable with that agenda.
"If they are saying I am a founding member of the NDP then I am coming to disband that party I am disbanding it because as far as I know, it is a useless party," he said adding, "They should check the register if they can find my name as being a founding member of the NDP. I am still the spokesman for Flt. Lt. Rawlings and the former president is not a member of NDP either."
Adams said of Rawlings, "He does not support what they are doing," he added, "I know that NDP has only three members (Nana Konadu, Bediako and Ernest Owusu- Bempah). It is the media that is wasting its energy, resources and time to provide them coverage. You can check if there is any trace of that
However, one of the NPD leaders, Selina Mintah, aka Kyeiwaa, who is the National Women's Organizer, has not taken kindly to Kofi Adams' comments and has said she was summoning him before the dreaded river deity in the Ashanti Region, Antoa.
Selina came to the offices of Daily Guide last Thursday in the company of Joseph Bediako, the NDP Acting National Organizer, with eggs and bottles of schnapps and challenged Kofi Adams to visit the shrine to prove if he was not active in the formation of the party.
"Kofi Adams was actively involved in the formation of the NDP and cannot turn around and conveniently attack the NDP this that agenda.
Mr. Bediako also challenged Kofi Adams to carry out his threat to disband the NDP, adding that "He has been going around threatening some of us. If he says he will disband the party then I will inform the woman (Nana Konadu) accordingly”.
Bediako said on a radio debate,"If he wants to go this way then we will also ensure that he does not become NDC national organizer."
But Kofi Adams shot back saying, "The threat that they will campaign against me is empty. They could not even file their documents at the EC to enable them to contest the 2012 general elections, how can we take such a group seriously? Please let's talk about something sensible."
