Ghanaians hold special voting today in a presidential run-off to elect a president between the candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Neither the NPP's Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nor Prof John Evans Atta Mills of the NDC secured enough votes for an outright win on December 7 when general elections were held.
The run-off is billed for Sunday, December 28, however, voters who would be engaged in election-related official duties – security personnel, media workers and Electoral Commission staff - are casting their ballot on Tuesday.
The exercise kicked off at 7 am across the country.
Myjoyonline teams monitoring the early voting report that unlike the first voting on December 2, 2008 which was characterised by tension, there was a serene atmosphere at various collation centres.
The long queues were missing, probably; the idea to split voting centres into two is paying off.
The Kotobabi Police Station in the Ayawaso Central constituency, for instance, had two separate tables that were serving the same queue.
As at 10:00 am, about 307 out of the about 700 electorate expected to vote there have already cast their ballot.
Mr. Michael Nyarko, returning officer at the centre, said voting started peacefully at exactly 7:00 am and as at 10:15 am, “everything is going on peacefully, no confrontation, argument or whatsoever”.
The situation was not different at the Nima Divisional Police Station under the Ayawaso East constituency.
