The Centre for Social Democracy (CSD-Ghana) commends President Mahama for the wisdom in assigning Dr. Michael Whyte Kpessa to head the National Service Scheme. The President’s appointment comes at a time there has been some contretemps with the scheme.

It is our belief that Dr. Whyte Kpessa's vast knowledge and experience in public administration and institutional design, inter alia, will enable him bring about the necessary overarching reforms which will address the current challenges and transform it into a modern model of such institutions aptly positioned to contribute effectively to the national transformation agenda.

Further, the status quo of scheme itself requires strong leadership, effective monitoring and evaluation, and diversification into new frontiers of service engagement. Critical considerations to these issues should greatly improve the image of the scheme and its corporate governance.

CSD-Ghana encourages Dr. Whyte Kpessa, an astute academic and Social Policy expert, to be wary of institutional saboteurs who may attempt to derail the reform agenda the President has set in motion at NSS and urges all stakeholders of the National Service Scheme to bring aboard ideas which can help to whip up the interest of many more young people in rendering their services to the nation.

The Centre further calls on Dr Whyte Kpessa to ignore all detractors and naysayers who are doing the bidding of their pay masters and concentrate on rendering his utmost service to God and Country. Posterity will judge all those negative evil mongers.

CSD-Ghana implores President John Mahama to continue to fire all non-performing appointees who clearly do not see the fierce urgency of his transformational vision for this country and by so doing are undermining his government with their gross ineptitude and inefficiency.
