A former Chief of Staff and a member of the Executive Assets Sub-Committee of the National Democratic Congress transition team, Nana Ato Dadzie has stated that this year’s transition has been relatively better than that of 2001.According to Nana Dadzie, although there have been some hitches here and there, officials of the erstwhile New Patriotic Party government should not have haboured cars since the issue of cars came up during the 2001 transition period. He stressed that during the exit of the then NDC government, the NPP did not have much time for the transition as they only had five to six days for the process, adding that, it was so because there had not been a transition between two elected parties.Nana Ato Dadzie stated on ASEMPA FM’s EKOSII SEN that the then NPP government reviewed the End of Service Benefit (ESB) and even asked the NDC officials who benefited to make a refund of 5% each. When asked if ex-president Rawlings’ official residence was discussed during the transition, Nana Dadzie answered in the affirmative. He indicated that, even with that, the ex-president and other officials of the NDC were subjected to various forms of humiliation. He cited as examples, the retrieval of vehicles from ex-president Rawlings and then ex-vice president Atta Mills, among others.
Nana Dadzie however hoped there would be legislation in place soon to take care of future transitions.Story by Jerry Mordy, Asempa FM
