The election for Greater Accra’s representation on the Council of State has been scheduled for Wednesday April 8 2009.The Region is the only outstanding one without representation in the council of state.Twenty-three out of the constitutionally mandated twenty-five members of the Council of State have been sworn in by President John Evans Atta Mills. The election, which was supposed to have been held on the March 24 was suspended following reports of unpreparedness on the part of the Regional Coordinating Council who could not constitute the region’s Electoral College for the exercise on time. The Regional Coordinating Council acknowledged in an earlier interview that this was also due to the existence of some vacancies in the assemblies which would take them some-time to reconstitute. In an interview with Citi News, Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Christian Owusu Parry said, with the set-back duly addressed, all is now set for the election to be smoothly carried out.He pointed out that two representatives from each of the ten assemblies in the Greater Accra Region that make up the Electoral College would be voting in the Conference room of Election Commission. He added that eight candidates in all were contesting the election whose results will be declared as soon as voting was over.Source: Cfm
