The Ghana Gas Company says it has processed and released several truck-loads of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant onto the market, even as it plans to commission the facility by end of this month.
Corporate Affairs Manager Alfred Ogbarmey told the B&FT that the LPG being introduced onto the market for domestic use is of high quality, has low acidic content, and offers less maintenance costs.
"We have started pushing our Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) onto the local market; so far so good - at least the Volta River Authority has confirmed that our quality of gas is extremely high and of the best standard so far compared to West Africa Gas Pipeline gas.
"The Atuabo gas has less carbon dioxide and virtually no hydrogen sulphide, which is found in most natural gas all over the world.
"Also, the acidic content is low and makes for efficiency, less maintenance cost and all; we are ready to do everything we can to add to the volume by end of this month," he said.
Mr. Ogbarmey said Atuabo Gas is currently generating and transmitting lean gas to the Aboadze Thermal Plant, and that it is currently producing 51.6 million cubic feet of gas per day.
He said the Volta River Authority (VRA) has given the assurance that it is ready to take as much as it [Atuabo Gas] can generate when it is done with retrofitting works on two of their machines, which should be ready by end of the month.
Ghana Gas Company is in the process of commission the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant at end of this month, and already all the various gas products are processed to the Ghanaian market.
"Already, LPG from Atuabo is being loaded onto the market – the LPG we are putting on the market is equally of high standard, and may be a benchmark set by the industry; you probably might be using gas Atuabo Plant for cooking would not know because it is not separately or uniquely Mr. Ogbarmey noted.
