The recent pronouncements by the Presdient of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration treated Voltarians as outsiders, has incurred the displeasure of Mr Kennedy Agyapong, a fire brand and leading member of the NPP.Describing Togbe Afede as a shameless opportunist, Agyapong said that such an unfortunate comment could come from any chief in the region with the exception of Togbe Afede, who benefited immensely from the former President Kufuor and the NPP administration at the expense of ordinary NPP faithful.Further describing his statement as racist, Mr Agyepong said politicians in this country will treat Togbe Afede, who doubles as Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Area, as a politician but not a chief, since he has delved into politics, adding that his intention is to divide the nation along tribal lines, which he described as rather unfortunate. The Assin North Member of Parliament who spoke on Oman FM Thursday said that Togbe Afede is an opportunist and an ungrateful man who wants to benefit unduly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, for which reason he was making such statements, adding that he can only incite in Volta Region which is one region out of 10 regions and that he should emulate the likes of the Asantehene and other chiefs in the country who only preach peace and unity. He warned; “He should be careful about his utterances. Has he heard Asantehene speaking like this before? He should be careful, nobody in Ghana is afraid of him… he can only incite in the Volta Region but Volta Region is not the only region in Ghana.”He continued; “We want to move this country forward, so he should stop that tribalism and racist cards he is playing. When he goes to the Volta Region then he will be knocking each other’s heads but when he comes to Ashanti Region then he will be pleading with them.”He said it is essential for all Ghanaians to rally support for President Mills since he is the incumbent president of the nation but for Togbe Afede to exhibit parochial interest over that of the nation is rather unfortunate, warning that; “He should be careful if he wants to create division in this country…”Mr Agyapong charged the the region House of Chiefs President to desist from such remarks because it is a critical moment for the country to unite for national development.Mr Kennedy Agyepong also asked for national prayers for President Mills.Credit: Ghanaian Observer
