The newly elected Mayor for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Samuel Sarpong has been sworn into office.The former Ashanti and Brong Ahafo zonal director of the Serious Fraud Office polled an overwhelming support of 77 votes out of 79, representing 97.5 per cent to win the approval of the assembly.The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission.Mr. Sarpong who before his approval was tipped to win majority support told the assembly members he will support them to develop their areas and also ensure right investors are attracted to the metropolis.The Assembly members had responded with wild jubilation when the Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku Manu introduced the nominee shortly before the voting.Though 86 members were expected to take part in the decision, only 81 members were present.Mr. Samuel Sarpong told the assembly members he will support ongoing projects such as the Sokoban Wood Village.The investiture was witnessed by the MPs for Asawasi and Minister of Youth and Sports, Muntaka Mubarak; Tafo-Pankrono and former Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Anthony Akoto-Osei and the MP for Oforikrom, Elizabeth Agyemang.A former presiding member, Nana Kofi Senya was also re-elected. Nana Senya, who held the position between 2004 and 2006 received 80 out of 81 votes.
