Tension is brewing in the Atebubu Amentin District of the Borng Ahafo Region over the confirmation of the president’s nominee for District Chief Executive for the area.
The chiefs and people of the district say they are gearing up for a show down Tuesday ahead of the confirmation of Sanja Nanja.
The paramount chief of the area, Nana Owusu Achea Brempong told Joy News that although president Mills had been petitioned over the matter, it appears the concerns of the people were being ignored.
He said he bore no personal grudge with the nominee but stressed he is against the appointment of a non-native to administer the district.
Despite the protestations, the nominee will be confirmed or rejected Tuesday when the assembly meets.
The nomination of Mr Nanja was met with resistance by the people who claimed he is not an indigene.
Nana Owusu Achea had threatened a hunger strike if the nomination of Mr. Nanja was not withdrawn.
His threat appears to have gone unheeded.
Now he is threatening brim stone and fire if the government does not listen to the cries of the people.
The chief stated there will be shards of dead bodies littered across the district if the nominee is confirmed.
