The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has said that the only way Ghana can survive the world economic crises is to transform her agricultural practices.
He has, therefore, urged the youth, especially those in the Afram Plains in the Kwahu North District to take up farming because it has been observed in other parts of the world that agriculture has now become one of the most profitable and fastest growing economic activity.
Mr. Ampofo said this at the confirmation of the Afram Plains District Chief Executive, Mr. Evans Charles Apraku, 40, an educationist at Donkorkrom on Tuesday.
Mr. Ampofo said government, in collaÂboration with the Agriculture Ministry, had made available implements to be sold to farmers on hire purchase basis in the Afram Plains.
"The NDC government is ready to bring a complete revolution into the agriculture sector," he stated.
Mr. Apraku polled 53 votes which represented 79.1 per cent of the 67 votes cast.
He charged the District Chief Executives in the region to be purposeful and ensure that there is value for money in the assemblies activities.
He announced plans by the government to provide two new ferries on the Afram river to boost transportation and to assist the farmers to send their farm produce to the urban centres.
