Former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng says the opposition New Patriotic Party is not shaken by threats of prosecution being issued by the Mills-led government.National Security Advisor, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has in an interview with the media hinted that government is finalising investigations on a number of transactions by the previous NPP administration to prosecute certain actionable offences.Brig. Nunoo-Mensah specifically mentioned the case of the former Speaker of Parliament Begyina Sakyi-Hughes’ alleged “looting” of state property from his official residence and the Ghana@50 celebration expenditure issues as some of the many cases that would be considered for action.But speaking in an interview with Citi FM, Mr Asamoah-Boateng said the former officials will be ever willing to cooperate with government, adding, “Let them come along, we’re waiting for them.” He however stressed that the planned move by the ruling government smacks of political persecution.Mr Asamoah-Boateng described as unfortunate the fact that such threats could be coming from the National Security Advisor.He said such matters must be left for the judiciary to handle and not to be bandied around to deliberately malign the former officials.Mr Asamoah-Boateng said he was convinced that the decision of the NDC to drag the ex-ministers and officials to court is the result of “pressures” from certain quarters within the ruling party.The threat of legal action against the ex-government functionaries comes in the wake of recent reports of seizures of vehicles belonging, mostly, to officials of the erstwhile NPP administration.Party General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, and the Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu at a recent press conference chided the NDC administration for “presiding over state-sponsored gangsterism and criminality,” a charge which was hotly contested by the ruling party.Listen to excerpts of Mr Asamoah-Boateng's reactionStory by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com
