The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Bettey Mould-Iddrisu, has denied reports that government is set to prosecute former government officials soon.Although government is still considering a report issued by the Don Arthur Transition Committee, Mould-Iddrisu would not confirm if government would soon hit the courts to prosecute former ministers in the erstwhile NPP administration thought to have fouled the law.The committee investigated state assets transfers during the transition.The Today newspaper on Monday published a report alleging that the A-G is lacing her boots to drag some top guns of the NPP to court to answer charges of financial malfeasances they were engaged in during the Kufuour administration.The paper had mentioned former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah; former Foreign Affairs Minister, Hackman Owusu Agyeman; and the former Speaker of Parliament Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi Hughes as some former government officials penciled for prosecution.Mr Kofi Jumah has told Joy News he is ready to face-off with prosecutors in court, describing the reports as a joke.And while confirming that the Don Arthur Committee report had mentioned a few past officials to have been involved in certain underhand dealings during their tenure, Madam Mould-Iddrisu said further investigations into such allegations will be done before Government decides whether or not to prosecute.“Everybody is free to make allegations, it is then incumbent on a responsible government to investigate those allegations, and that is precisely what we are doing,” Madam Mould-Iddisu hinted.At his investiture as President of the Republic of Ghana, President Atta Mills promised to deal with corruption, stressing “the law will take its course.”Four months into the new administration, top government officials have issued threats that the Mills-led administration would soon prosecute many former officials for various wrong doing.National Security Advisor, Brig. Gen. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah early on told the press a court action against some ex-officials was in the offing.But the latest comment from the A-G presents a contradiction of Brig.
