President J.E.A. Mills will be paying a four-day visit to the Upper East and West Regions this week. The visit is scheduled between May 27 and 30.A statement signed by presidential spokesperson Mahama Ayariga released Monday said the president will be making major policy announcements on the development of the two regions.“During his stay in the 2 regions the President will meet with various chiefs including the Bawku Naaba, opinion leaders, public servants and party activists.”The statement said the president will also be inspecting development projects as well as address durbars of the chiefs and people in Wa and Bolgatanga. The two regions gave the president substantial votes in last year’s elections. In the presidential run-off last December, then candidate Mills obtained 223,506 votes representing 65.55% of total votes compared to his rival Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP who got only 117,470 votes representing 34.45%.He polled 134,926 votes in the Upper West Region which constituted 62.32% of the total votes cast while his contender, Nana Addo managed 81,566, which was 37.68% of valid votes cast. The visits could therefore be seen as a thank you to the people and an assurance that they have not been forgotten and that their overwhelming endorsement is appreciated.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
