NDC firebrand Tony Aidoo has described as divisive and irresponsible, statements raised by the New Patriotic Party's 2008 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Akuffo-Addo at a press conference on Tuesday, his first ever public statement since his failed bid to win the presidency, expressed reservations over the state of the country’s economy, the performance of the Mills government as well as some concerns over security and alleged acts of victimization and persecution of members of the past government by the Mills administration.
But the issues did not go down well with the Dr. Aidoo, whose response was swift and harsh.
“He said a lot of things that were provocative. He said a lot of things that is setting this country on a political attrition. He should be ashamed of himself. He lost. Let him lick his wounds, but he should not rope in the country into a position of political conflict,” Dr. Aidoo told Citi News in an interview.
The former Deputy Defence Minister under the Rawlings-led administration said the former presidential candidate should be hauled to the courts and be prosecuted for “stealing state property,” in reference to allegations Nana Addo kept two state vehicles belonging to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, over a year after he resigned as Minister to pursue his presidential ambition.
Even though the allegation has been dismissed, Dr. Aidoo is not impressed.
“He must tell the justification for keeping state property for one year and six months. He should tell the nation why he should not be charged with theft. He stole state property, he stole them, for eighteen whole months. He must start accounting for it."
Dr. Aidoo further questioned Nana Addo’s commitment to fighting for the rights of citizens saying, the presidential candidate then as Attorney General was a complete disaster who did nothing when Ya-Na the paramount Chief of Dagbon and Issa Mobilla, the Chairman of the Northern Region CPP were gruesomely murdered.
On the economy, Dr. Aidoo said Nana Akufo Addo is completely “inarticulate where economic issues are concerned.”
