A founding father of the main opposition NPP, Prof Wayo Seini, has described Nana Akufo-Addo's comments on Dagbon as an embarrassment to the party.
Prof Seini's remarks follow a press conference in Accra at which Nana Addo advanced arguments claiming there was a direct state machinery meddling in the Dagbon conflict which has dragged on for years.
The NPP 2008 presidential candidate for Election 2008 stated that "I am extremely concerned about the creeping threats to the peace proces in Dagbon, which appear to be with the active connivance of the state machinery."
Nana Addo averred that whilst under the agreed roadmap to peace in Dagbon as designed by the three eminent chiefs, the Asantehene, the Na Yiri and the Yagbon Wura, none of the two feuding factions was supposed to have access to the old Gbewaa Palace, but "just two weeks ago, the Andani's were assisted by state security personnel to enter the Palace and perform certain rites and renovations.
"As a result, tensions in Yendi and Dagbon is , predictably rising again," Nana stated.
But speaking to Joy FM on Wednesday, Prof Wayo Seini who once defected to the ruling NDC and returned, said Nana Addo's comment was inaccurate and portrays an intention to drive away the Andani faction from the NPP.
He said contrary to Nana Addo's remark that the Gbewaa Palace was what the Andani's renovated, the Royal Mausoleum was the property which was fixed because it had been giving way.
"They rehabilitated the Royal Mausoleum, it had gone into pieces and somebody had to do it. And that Royal Mausoleum had the remains of several Yaa Naas," he stressed.
He also stressed that the eminent chiefs had agreed on barring either faction from entering the palace but did not make mention of other monuments in Dagbon such as the Mausoleum.
Prof Seini expressed shock at the comments saying he is "at a loss why Nana should even comment on this... somebody who is aspiring to become the president of this country; he has to be somebody who accomodates both families."
He described as a "big lie" the perception that the Andani gate were sympathisers of the ruling party.
But in a sharp rebuttal, an aide to Nana Addo, Abu Gyinapoh said Nana Addo only called for fairness in enforcing the roadmap to peace in the area.
"Akufo-Addo simply made a call...that President Mills should be seen to be impartial, he should be neutral in this matter because one he is neutral it will help to secure peace for Dagbon.
Mr Gyinapoh intimated that Prof Seini had been overly sentimental, urging the senior member of the party "to be calm and appreciate the dynamics of the situation."
