The 18-member committee tasked to organise the commemoration of the 100th birthday of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has been inaugurated on Tuesday.
The Vice-President, John Mahama who supervised the inauguration ceremony tasked committee members to prepare a budget, plan and provide details of activities as well as duration for the commemoration.
They have one month to furnish government with the details of the programme which is set to end on 21st September, the birthday of Dr. Nkrumah.
They are also to provide alternative sources of funding for the event.
The Vice-President advised members of the committee to be transparent in their dealings, adding, they will be asked to account for the appropriation of the funds allocated for celebration.
The committee chaired by Prof. Akilakpa Sawyer, has majority of its members taken from the CPP fraternity.
They include,Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosah, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Prof. Nii Noi Dowuona, Mr. Bernard Mornah, Madam Esi Sutherland Addy, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, Dr. Don Arthur and Dr. Yao Graham.
The rest are Rev. Chris Hesse, Mr Mohammed Ben Abdallah, Mr. J.H. Cobbinah, Mr. Ladi Nylander, Mr. Nat Mainoo, Madam Araba Bentsi Enchill, Mrs Bernice Deh-Kumah, Mr A. Asuom Ahensan and Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu.
Prof. Badu Akosa and Kwasi Pratt Jnr., said to have travelled outside the country, were not at the inauguration ceremony.
