Nana Barima Kumessy Bonsy, Jasikan District Chief Executive has entreated people who have discounted the essence of the June 4 Revolution, to know that no one can suppress the truth about the event. He stressed: “Facts always assert their existence in the end, in spite of the resistance put up by those who are shocked, annoyed or inconvenienced by their discovery.” Nana Bonsy, a cadre of the 1979 Revolution, was addressing activists of the United Cadres Front (UCF) as well as the Youth Wing (YW) and Youth Forum (YF) of ruling National Democratic Congress in the Hohoe-North Constituency, as part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the June 4 Uprising. He said the key lessons of June 4, should remind successive governments that the welfare of the masses could not be taken for granted. “We believe that the Constitutional order has come to stay and as cadres you should use all democratic means to ensure probity, accountability and transparency,” he said. Nana Bonsy told the gathering that the tenets of June 4 are not only necessary for national politics but must permeate all facets of society. He however noted that a few opponents of the revolution, in their quest to downplay the significance of the occasion, have highlighted the few excesses. Nana Bonsy said the revolution ensured that real power was returned to the people, re-asserting the rights of the masses and ushered in a government of the people and by the people. Mr Maclean Pewudie, a senior Cadre of the UCF, who spoke on “Youth Empowerment in the Global Village: The ICT Factor”, said the nation stands to benefit immensely from the youth as a human resource to facilitate the attainment of accelerated and sustainable industrialisation. He therefore urged the youth to persevere and have confidence in themselves and refrain from wasteful life patterns and the get-rich-quick attitude. Mr Pewudie entreated the government to establish structures for the effective empowerment and training regimes for the youth to ensure a guaranteed future. He asked the government and other stakeholders to support interventions that would change the negative perception the youth have about the employment prospects agricultural production could offer them. Mr Pewudie asked, "If Americans, Chinese, Japanese are in Ghana to cultivate rice while Brazilians are into sugar cane production, then what prevents the Ghanaian youth from turning to the land?"He said the time had come to turn the clock round and empower the youth in a positive and right direction for a sustainable and meaningful future. Mr Pewudie urged the government to mainstream the youth in Information and Communication Technology, and re-engineer the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service, to promote literacy among the illiterate adult population in order to narrow the knowledge gap for nation building. Mr Sikiru Abibu, Hohoe-North Constituency Leader of YF, called on President John Evans Atta Mills, to be inspired by the spirit of June 4, to enforce accountability and transparency. Mr Ray Parker, Leader of the Hohoe-North Constituency of YW, urged the youth to detest nation-wrecking tendencies and uphold the truth at all times. The group earlier undertook a clean-up exercise at the main Hohoe market, desilted choked gutters and filled pot holes. They also presented assorted fruits worth 500 Ghana Cedis to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital.Source: GNA
