Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says government has made alternative arrangement for an office accommodation for former president Kufuor. He said the arrangement was meant to ensure that the former president gets a place to work from. But spokesperson for Mr. Kufuor, Frank Agyekum says he is not aware of any such arrangements. In any case the former president, he said, would want to wait for Parliament to approve the recommendations of the Chinery Hesse report which will make room for an office accommodation for him.He said since the constitution mandates Parliament to make such facilities available to the former president, they would rather want to go with the Constitution’s prescriptions.Reacting to Mr. Agyekum’s comments, Mr. Ablakwa said the government will respect the former president’s decision to wait for Parliament’s action on the matter. He said government thought the former president needed a place urgently and that was why a place was secured at the Airport Residential area for him.Former president Kufuor allotted himself an office at Ridge from where he would operate. But immediately after coming onto office government said the facility was a national security building.A huge furor followed government’s intention to take over the facility on the basis that the former president could not be allowed to occupy the building in a security zone.On Tuesday Mr. Kufuor packed out of the building following a call from the National Security Co-ordinator, Gbevelo Lartey to hand over the keys to the facilityStory by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
