Former President Kufuor says he will only accept a retirement package approved by Parliament.Spokesperson to the former president Mr Frank Agyekum speaking to Joy News said the former president would wait patiently for Parliament’s approved retirement package for him.He said the move is necessary to avoid any further embarrassment and controversy.Mr Kufuor’s position follows a request by National Security to hand over keys to his Ridge office complex.The former president acquired the office accommodation for himself prior to leaving power.Some cars Mr Kufuor decided to keep also sparked huge controversy as national security, describing the vehicles as “state vehicles,” asked that he returns them.Mr Frank Agyekum said Mr Kufuor is also not ready to occupy a supposed new office allocated the former president at the Airport Residential Area.The former president has also rejected use of two Mercedes Benz saloon cars supplied by government.But with the decision of President Mills to set up a committee to review benefits for former officials including Mr Kufuor, Mr Frank Agyekum said his boss is ready to wait.“We’ll rather go by the constitutional requirement and that Parliament will come out and give the constitutional package,” the former president’s spokesperson stressed.Deputy Information Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa says government will respect Mr Kufuor’s decision.He said the offer to the former president was only tentative, awaiting the review of the Chinery Hesse committee report and the final parliamentary clearance.“We had thought that the former president needed an office urgently.
