Government has condemned the attitude of wife of former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng towards some national security operatives, and is threatening legal action against her for “obstructing justice.”
Two officials from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) stopped Mr Asamoah Boateng and his family, who were due to board a British Airways flight at the Kotoka International Airport, to the U.S. Sunday night.
Mrs Asamoah Boateng enraged by the action of the national security operatives engaged them in a scuffle.
Speaking to Joy News on Monday, Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa told Joy News Mrs Asamoah Boateng could have been allowed to board the flight if not for her unruly behaviour.
He said the action of the former minister's wife amounted to an obstruction of justice, a behaviour he said is actionable.
Meanwhile Mr Asamoah Boateng has denied suggestions that he was running away from justice.
Government says the former minister was prevented from proceeding on his journey because he is needed to answer some questions relating to the award of a contract for the renovation of the Information Ministry building.
But Mr Asamoah Boateng told Joy News he was only travelling to the US for a brief visit.
The BNI last week questioned former Deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum, over the award of the same contract.
