Idris Elba on Tuesday assured fans that he’s feeling fine despite testing positive for coronavirus.
“The Wire” star, 47, went live on Twitter and opened up about the past 24 hours since announcing his diagnosis.
“It’s been a mad 24 hours as you can probably guess. Yesterday was just good and bad. It was bad because obviously I tested positive, but it was also good because it opened up a lot of conversation around it,” Elba shared.
“I think it made it a lot more real for some people. I think it definitely made it more real for me and my family,” Elba continued. The “Cats” actor revealed he’s “asymptomatic,” meaning he hasn’t felt any symptoms as a result of COVID-19.
“Right now I am feeling OK,” Elba explained. “I woke up this morning, didn’t have any symptoms…still don’t have any symptoms. [I’m] checking my fever twice a day. [I] feel good.”
Elba, who said his “known contact” with the virus was March 4, also addressed how he managed to get tested for it, which he described has been “very very hard” for others given the shortages, and said he was “really lucky.”
“I was going to be around a lot of people starting this new film,” which was why he was tested.
The British actor also explained why he included his wife, Sabrina Dhowre, 30, in his announcement video, contrary to quarantine guidelines.
“Sabrina wanted to be by my side,” he said, noting he figured she might test positive, too, as he had been in contact with her.
At one point in his livestream, a person in the background began to cough, which Elba revealed was Sabrina “choking on her drink.”
