The Ashanti NDC Constituency Secretaries Forum is urging new Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah, to overhaul the scheme’s structure.
Members of the forum say challenges such as delayed payment of claims to service providers and widespread corruption allegations against some managers call for serious attention.
In a congratulatory message, the group expressed the hope Mr. Mensah’s appointment would bring the needed transformation to the NHIS.
They say not only will the transformation at the NHIS attract more subscribers but also confirm government’s aim of instituting the Scheme.
Secretary of the forum, Daniel Frimpong, says the new Chief Executive should bring his experience as a banker, administrator and politician to bear on the scheme to make it more relevant to Ghanaian.
Mr. Frimpong particularly calls for measures to prevent and track corrupt practices in the national health policy, and bring offenders to book.
He however believes such measures would require more due diligence than haste.
The measures according to him should include investigation and prosecution of corrupt officials and the use of approved procedures in the scheme’s operations.Story by Ohemeng Tawiah
