Mama Dzitri is Vice President of Hohoe Municipal Council of Queens

The Hohoe Municipal Council of Queens has called on stakeholders to institute stringent measures to prevent the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the municipality.

According to them, residents are at a greater risk of contracting the virus since the municipal capital, Hohoe serves as a transit point for travellers and has seen an influx of residents from cities identified to have recorded cases.

The Vice-Chairperson of the Hohoe Municipal Council of Queens, Mama Dzitri, among other things suggested screening exercises in the communities and mass Covid-19 testing if need be.

“We are appealing to corporate and philanthropic organizations to help furnish the health directorate with enough logistics, especially thermometer guns to enable them embark on screening exercises in the municipality”, she added during a press conference in Hohoe.

She also expressed worry about how parents put their children at risk during this pandemic as many are sent hawking in traffic, at the lorry stations and market centres.

Mama Dzitri, therefore, suggested the formation of a task force to arrest children hawking and punish “their parents for reneging on their responsibilities”.

Mama Dzitri entreated security agencies to intensify their surveillance at the borders to fish out persons who would attempt to enter the country through unapproved routes, to prevent the importation of the virus.

She urged the residents to volunteer information on recalcitrants who would breach the closed borders, to the relevant authorities for appropriate actions.

The Council presented tissues worth GH¢1,000 to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital.
