A senior lecturer at the University of Ghana and aspiring member of parliament, Dr Inusah Abdul-Nasiru, has donated some items to the tune of GH¢220,000 to the Krachi Nchumuru District in the Oti Region.
This follows the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana. Ghana currently has 205 confirmed cases of the virus and a lockdown has been initiated in Kasoa, Accra, Tema and Kumasi in an attempt to curb its spread.
Government has subsequently declared a public health emergency as health professionals race against time to fight the virus.

On the back of this, Dr Inusah Abdul-Nasiru donated 300 bottles of hand sanitisers, 7,200 nose masks, 1,000 Hand Gloves, 2,500 disposable gowns and 1,440 cannulas.
These items were distributed across various groups such as health services delivery workers, Police, Fire Service and other security agencies in the Krachi Nchumuru district.
Additionally, some of the hand sanitisers and nose masks went to the Christian Council, the Muslim Council and some members of the community.

According to Dr Abdul-Nasiru, “I am making this personal donation to the people in my district because it is time to do so, and there is the need for this action.”
“There is time for everything. It is time to stay alive by following expert advice from the Ghana Health Service, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and national leadership as we all fight the Coronavirus,” the aspiring MP said.
While entreating all to stay calm and ignore misinformation amid the spread of the virus, Dr Abdul-Nasiru explained that “I know we can do more, and that is my target: to continue serving my people any day.”

The Psychology lecturer also advised members of the constituency to observe the social distancing protocols and hygiene practices to minimise their susceptibility to the virus.
“Let us all follow the directives of the President, his team of experts and local authorities as we support them to see us through these abnormal times,” he added.
