Leader of Ghana's coronavirus test team, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, says Ghana's Covid-19 cases will not hit the thousands as has been the case for other countries in Europe, Asia, and the US.
The US has currently recorded about 386,587 cases followed by Spain and Italy with 140,511 and 135,586 respectively.
According to the health expert, the two-week lockdown order by President Akufo-Addo was timely, produced significant results and has largely reduced the spread of the virus in Ghana.
“When you lockdown and you test, you are likely to get more cases,” Dr. Kaba told JoyNews’ Latif Iddris who was given rare access to the Ga East District Hospital, a central facility for holding and treating coronavirus patients in Ghana.
He also added that “it is a reality that measures of containment have been taken at the appropriate time for us not to go to the thousands”.
Dr Akoriyea, however, cautioned the general population to psych themselves up because the numbers are likely going to rise following the lockdown.
He attributed this possibility to the accelerated testing which followed the imposition of restrictions which he says, is the purpose of the lockdown order issued by the President.
