President Akufo-Addo has pleaded with bereaved persons to bury their loved ones in private ceremonies and hold the funeral rites later.
According to him, although it may be difficult for many, it is essential these private funerals are held because the morgues across the country are becoming full, due to the ban on public gathering.
“The morgues will, in themselves, soon pose a public health hazard. So, let us act quickly on this,” President Akufo-Addo said while addressing the nation on the measures being taken to fight the coronavirus.
He urged that while holding these private burials, families should adhere to the twenty-five (25) person limit.
“I entreat religious, traditional, community and opinion leaders to partner with government in engaging, mobilising and enforcing adherence to social distancing and personal hygiene practices in their respective communities.”
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has lifted the restriction of movement ban imposed on people Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi because of the Covid-19.
He said that the three-week lockdown has achieved its objectives, among which was the need to scale up tracing and testing people who may have come into contact with those who had already tested positive.
However, all other measures including suspension of all public gatherings, including conferences, workshops, funerals, parties, night clubs, drinking spots, beaches, festivals, political rallies, religious activities and sporting events are still in place.
Also, all educational facilities, private and public, are to remain closed.
