The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and food items worth ¢300,000 through the of Local Government Ministry to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) towards the fight against Covid-19 pandemic in the city.
The items were hand sanitisers, N95 masks, protective eye shields, surgical gloves, examination gloves, coveralls, safety goggles, Veronica buckets, paper towels, handwashing soap, and facemasks.

The rest include 500 Bags of 25kg Rice, 167 Cartons of cooking oil, 100 cartons of canned fish, 105 Cartons of tomatoes paste and 80 Cartons of washing soap.
Elder Edward Dube, first Counsellor Africa West Area Presidency of the church who presented the items said the church recognises the efforts by the government in providing relief to the front line workers and the vulnerable hence the partnership to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on Ghanaians.

"We have residents in the community who are members of the church but we also try to impact the whole community, " he said.
He was hopeful the items would help reduce the effects of the virus on frontline health workers and service providers as well the vulnerable in society.

Kwasi Adjei-Boateng, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development who received the items on behalf of the Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama said, the government recognises the need for support from all and sundry including the church in the fight against the coronavirus.

He explained the reason why the government established the Ghana COVID-19 Fund to contain and prevent the spread of the disease and expressed the government's appreciation for the gesture.
He announced that government would from today begin the distribution of uncooked food to identified vulnerable households.

Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah was hopeful the items would go a long way to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic on frontline health workers and other service providers as well as the vulnerable in society.
