The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed that malaria-related deaths in the country has dropped by 88%.
This means that from recording 2, 799 cases of malaria in 2012, by the end of 2019, only 333 were recorded.
Commemorating World Malaria Day 2020, themed “Zero Malaria Starts with Me”, Director-General of the Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye in a statement indicated that the achievement is a significant development that cannot be ignored.
He acknowledge stakeholders who have played vital roles in achieving such a milestone in the country.
“Millions of Ghanaians have been reached with effective life-saving tools such as a long lasting insecticide tested nets, indoor residual spraying and preventive antimalarial.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the GHS Director-General cautioned citizens not to lose sight of the danger malaria poses to their health.
He advised that, people should continuously protest themselves against malaria to sustain the ‘hard-won’ progress in the malaria fight.
“It is important to sustain the efforts of the Ghana Health Service and its partners to advance efforts made to prevent, detect, and treat malaria.”
