Human Resource Manager for YOLO Experiences, the parent company of popular restaurants and nightclubs in Accra has appealed to government to temporarily halt the collection of taxes and levies placed on restaurants and hotels among others.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Thursday, Eva Toniyire said the coronavirus pandemic has snuffed the life out of the hospitality industry.
She said they cannot go on as if nothing is happening around the world.
“We pay Ghana Tourism Authority [tax], we pay Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and we have property rents still on hold but until government comes out to say something about these things, things are still going to run as if there is nothing happening in the world,” she said.
In other development, Ghana Hotels Association has also called on the government to reduce taxes placed on their hotels.
President of the Association, Dr Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr, suggested that there should be a three per cent reduction in Value Added Tax.
He also called for 80 per cent reduction in corporate tax in addition to other reductions as well as other forms of payments the industry has to make to government.
