Legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu says he is certain that the three top officials who were convicted for causing financial loss to the state will appeal the decision.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story Tuesday, Mr Kpebu said there is no way the three officials who worked under the Mahama-government will just accept the jail sentence as their fate.

“This not the end of the battle, that is one thing that is clear to me.

“Because looking at past experiences and the stature of these persons, there is no way they are going to take the decision at this point as the final decision, they will go all the way to the supreme court,” he stated.

A former Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), former Board Chairman of the Authority and a former National Security representative coordinator were today found guilty of causing financial loss to the state.

William Tetteh Tevie and Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie were both slapped with six-year jail term whereas, Salifu Osman got a five-year jail term.

Justice Eric Kyei Baffour found them guilty of causing $4 million financial loss to the state.

However, one other accused person, a businessman was acquitted and discharged.

Advocating for an amendment to the laws, the legal practitioner said, it is would be advisable if the convicts are granted bail during their appeal, that's if they appeal.

According to him, it will make it fair should they win their subsequent redress of the case.

Mr Kpebu also commended the judge for directing that some assets of the officials are preserved to refund the state should they be found guilty all the way to the Supreme Court.

“Sending someone to jail without recovering any asset is not in the interest of Ghanaians.

"We should be very much interested in recovering any lost property, so the order that the state should seize some assets is something I consider very laudable.”
