The New Patriotic Party has asked its delegates to conduct themselves in an acceptable manner as the party heads to parliamentary primaries on Saturday.
In a statement to delegates and other party faithful, the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu it is crucial for the NPP to show that Ghana can undertake democratic exercises cautiously, the Covid-19 pandemic, notwithstanding.
“More importantly, these primaries provide the NPP yet another fine opportunity to demonstrate its unrivaled democratic credentials which have endeared the party to the rest of the world as the citadel of democracy in Africa and beyond,” Mr. Boadu wrote.
He also appealed to the rank and file of the party “to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement” issued by the party for a safe process.
The party has said it will provide veronica buckets at all voting centres so participants can wash their hands; a salient protocol in fighting Covid-19.
Face masks will also be provided to all delegates.
All party members are to ensure that the process is carried out “with the necessary finesse and candor that it deserves.”
“Let it be said once again that the NPP went into these primaries and came out as a much stronger party poised to winning the 2020 general elections in order to continue to deliver prosperity to the Ghanaian people.
“It is indeed doable, and the NPP shall do it again for the love of God and country,” Mr. Boadu said.
The party is holding the primaries in Constituencies where they have sitting MPs, having held same in the so-called orphan constituencies in 2019.
Voting, according to the NPP starts at 7:00am and ends at 1:00pm when counting is expected to begin at all centres.
