Some NPP delegates in the Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region are are disputing the delegates list for the constituency's primary scheduled for Wednesday.
They describe as, complete absurdity, the party’s stance on a new national voters' register while it endorses a “corrupted” delegates album.
Election in the constituency was suspended due to disagreement over the delegates’ album as the NPP went for parliamentary primaries on Saturday.
Agitated delegates are contesting the identities of 172 persons allegedly smuggled into 2018 updated album, to give undue advantage to incumbent MP, Dr Samiu Nuamah.
“The situation of the Kwadaso delegates’ album is akin to the present status of the national voters' register which the NPP and other well-meaning Ghanaians have advocated for years to be recompiled.
"To us, therefore, it is a complete absurdity for the party to seek a clean National Voters register while it endorses a corrupted delegates Album at Kwadaso for its parliamentary primaries,” leader of the ‘concerned delegates'," Frank Agyei Badu said.
The protesters said a 2013 official album was provided to all aspirants for campaign purposes.
The delegates have vowed to resist any attempts to undermine the process.
“We are serving notice that as true-blue elephants who subscribe strongly to the firm democratic principles of free and fair elections, we shall not under any circumstance accept a corrupted delegates Album for the Kwadaso constituency.
"We shall resist with all our might any attempts to plunge Kwadaso into chaos with this corrupted album,” Mr Agyei Badu said.
In the run-up to this year's parliamentary primaries, the issue of the alleged fake album came under intense scrutiny.
A three-member committee chaired by regional Youth Organiser, Dennis Kwakwa, was formed to investigate.
On Thursday, the NPP General Secretary addressed a memo to the Regional Chairman, copied to the Kwadaso constituency executives and aspirants which was expected to resolve the issue.
But the leader of the delegates said, “The 172 persons whom are to be maintained in the proposed new album are persons who were illegally smuggled into the 2018 updated album.
"They claim these persons are known only to the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr Samiu Nuamah as there is no way to independently verify their identities, addresses and contact numbers.
“The effect of this is that, by retaining these 172 smuggled names on the album, the incumbent MP will be given an undue advantage in the primaries which is supposed to be a fair contest in line with our democratic principles.”
