MainOne has commenced the construction of its MDXi data center in Appolonia City as part of its regional expansion plans.

The new Tier III facility in Appolonia Industrial Park is expected to be ready for service by the end of March 2021.

From Appolonia City, MainOne, West Africa’s premier connectivity and data center solution provider, will give access connectivity options to all the leading telecom networks in Ghana and direct access to MainOne and other submarine cable systems.

The facility is being built and operated in accordance with the same operational standards currently maintained at MainOne and West Africa’s largest Tier III certified and only PCI DCSS Data Center, MDXi Lagos, in Nigeria.

“We are providing broadband infrastructure solutions across West Africa as part of our commitment to supporting customers in their digitization journey. This world-class data center is one of such support initiatives,” said Kazeem Oladepo, Regional Executive, MainOne.

“In a world with an unprecedented need for digital solutions, Appolonia Industrial Park is an ideal place for this data center, with world-class infrastructure already in place. We are confident that the facility will support many homes and industries,” said Appolonia City CEO Bright Owusu-Amofah.

Upon completion, the facility will deliver the best in class facility uptime and operational performance at very efficient shared services cost for hosting and operating core IT infrastructure and services.

It will feature private colocation whitespace, enterprise-grade 24x7 multi-level security and video surveillance, precision cooling, safety, and fire suppression systems with multiple redundancies built into the power, cooling, and security infrastructure.

It will be operated as a carrier-neutral facility with connectivity options to the MainOne submarine cable system, extensive global network, and partners, as well as a host of other international connectivity cable systems and networks.

It will, therefore, offer open access connectivity options to all MNOs, ISPs, corporate and public sector customers in Ghana as well as access to various Internet Exchanges including the GIX (Ghana), IXPN (Nigeria), LINX (London), DECIX (Frankfurt/Lisbon), and Cote d’Ivoire Internet Exchange (CIVIX), and the West Africa Internet Exchange (WAF-IX), hosted by MainOne in Nigeria.

Appolonia Industrial Park is a 200-acre zone within Appolonia City’s 2,325-acre development with high-quality infrastructure specifically engineered for light industrial uses.

In addition to MainOne, other local and international companies are also developing facilities at the park, including Nickseth Construction, Alusynco, Crownhouse Construction & Logistics, PUMA Energy, and Total Ghana.
