President Akufo Addo has expressed dissatisfaction with the poor observation of the Covid-19 safety protocols at the New Patriotic Party’s just ended parliamentary primaries.
During his speech at his acclamation ceremony Saturday, June 27 at the Alisa Hotels in Accra, President Akufo Addo cautioned party members against repeating the incident.
“This past weekend our party came to the end of the processes that we had to go through to prepare for the elections in December with the primaries in the various constituencies where we have sitting MPs.
"Unfortunately in our enthusiasm, in sheer joy, we broke some of the Covid-19 safety protocols. It should not happen again,” he cautioned.
His comment comes days after several individuals and organisations raised concerns about the total disregard for these protocols during the primaries.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), together with some pastors had also argued that citizens who were arrested and prosecuted for breaking various restriction protocols should be freed by the governing party as its members did same.
President Akufo-Addo was also chastised for not calling his people to order and risking the lives of the citizens as Ghana continues to record more cases of covid-19.
But addressing this, the President said "there are no hiding places when the virus is on board" hence all must obey the laid down protocols which include wearing of face masks, social distancing, and regular washing of hands under running water.
